Malaysian maverick blogger arrested

While Singapore has been abuzz over the Li Hongyi incident, the Malaysian blogosphere has been spooked by the arrest of a maverick blogger.

The blogger is Nathaniel Tan (left in the pix on polytikus (right), who is his close friend). He is known to be an aide of Parti Keadilan Rakyat Anwar Ibrahim and the man in charge of the Opposition party's website.

The Star said the arrest was believed to be in connection with a doctored picture of Deputy Prime Minister which was posted on the Internet.

Malaysian bloggers have launched a petition urging the release of Nat.

Your reference to the Saturday’s STAR on a Sunday post was outdated. If you had searched harder, the news was out by evening that he was remanded 4 days.
It was Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Johari’s initiative. Bernama has a report on the same day that he “wants the Police to initiate investigations to trace writers spreading lies through websites. He said that he had instructed the Police's Commercial Crimes Investigation Department (CCID) to undertake the investigations and bring the culprits to book “

It seems that the offending post was dated Dec 22 06 pertaining to accusations against Johari RM5 million bribe acceptance (at the comment section in which he provided the link to the OSA details of the 3 kingpins.
He is now flexing his muscles and power asking for his “pound of flesh”. If he can accused the IGP of the bribes charges, what is there to stop him to “punish” those spreading the lies in the websites.
Interalia, the Tian Chua’s doctored photo was the breaking straw. Nat’s involvement as the Secretary to the Chairman of the Foundation for the Future, Anwar Ibrahim was also looked into. More details at:
