China Images

Uncle Fatso has a nice snapshot of China during Chinese New Year while he is stuck in the country for business. He obviously went to the zoo and the temple. He's obviously become quite a holy man. Yet he still managed to capture the playful side of the absolutely adorable panda.

Thank you sophie:

The 1st day of the Spring Festival (Chinese Lunar New Year) was full of joy in China. Firecrackers & Fireworks were being lit everywhere.

My first venue was paying homage to my guiding master, Ami-tuo-fo Buddha (Amitabha Buddha) at Lingyin Temple which is situated within the famous Hangzhou Xi Hu (West Lake) sanctuary.

SPECIMENS (Zoology Terminology)
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Subphylum: Vertebrata
Class: Mammalia
Order: Carnivora
Family: Ursidae
Genus: Ailuropoda
Species: Ailuropoda melanoleuca (Giant Panda - 大 熊 猫)

My 3rd day, I spend two hours at the Hangzhou Zoological Garden whereas the main the attraction is non other than the cute and adorable Ailuropoda melanoleuca (Giant Panda)

He was lazy and could lies on the floor of his glass tempered cage for hours just to bite the bamboo shoots with his sharp and delicate teeth.

Besides the Bamboo as his main roughage, the zoo keeper offered him Chinese grown apple and Lu Shun (another type of bamboo shoots), whereas he can eat the inner part juicy part and peel off the skin with ease. He is such a pro and everyone just loved to see his appearance.

Many photographers failed to snap a good picture as everyone turn to flash mode and the flash light rebounded from the thick tempered glass but I switched my film mode to ASA 400 and panned my digital camera without a shake and took the best out of the lighting that the artificial cage lighting that could offered.

The only regret was that I failed to jot down his name as I don’t understand Chinese Character.

- Uncle Fatso wishing all Chinese A Happy Spring Festival

3rd March, 2007

I recalled that the Giant Panda ate carrot too and loved it dearly.

That day at the Hangzhou Zoological Garden (also situated within the Hangzhou Xi Hu – West Lake sanctuary) it was raining substantially and that’s why it was kept dry in its tempered glass cage but I learned later on that on a sunny day, it will enjoy an artificial man made bamboo jungle outside of the said cage premise. Just too bad the sky opened up when I reached it’s artificial habitat at the far end of the Zoo.

For those who wish to observe live Giant Panda at their artificial
